Artificial intelligence (AI) has made creating realistic self-portraits easier and better. Regarding the upcoming With AI trainings, including the Äripää Academy on September 25AI Marketing Internship - Texts, Visuals and Videos", I tested different solutions and share my experiences.

Two main approaches: AI face swapping vs. digital cloning

There are basically two ways to generate your own images using an artificial tree::

Create a picture and replace the face with your own.
Create an AI model or "clone" of yourself and generate different versions of it.

AI face swap

“AI Face Swap Surgery”, for example Midjourney + InSwapper using the solution requires a paid Midjourney account and some setup. You can find examples and instructions from here.

Midjourney generally produces high-quality images, but it's important to describe yourself accurately to achieve a realistic result. Based on my experience, a high-quality "face change" is successful in about one out of ten cases.

For example, I tasked Midjourney with creating an image with the following description:
“A photorealistic portrait of a cyborg, approximately 40 years old, with a completely bald head, standing at a podium in a modern seminar room. His left arm is clearly mechanical, with visible wires and gears. He's wearing a sleek, dark suit, and his eyes have a cold, calculating gleam. The room's walls are adorned with abstract AI-inspired murals, and a large screen behind him displays complex data visualizations. Cinematic lighting –ar 16:9“

One result was the image below on the left. I then selected “More – Apps – InSwapper” and after a few seconds, the “face change operation” was relatively successful.

Helpful tip: If you like an image, upload it to ChatGPT or another AI solution and tell it to make a prompt that can be used to create a similar image. The picture can also be taken with a phone from a real situation.

Digital cloning

Another, much simpler option is to create an AI model or "clone" of yourself in some environment and then place yourself in different contexts. If necessary, age, body structure and other characteristics can be changed.

To clone your own AI, you can find dozens, if not hundreds, of different AI solutions on the web. The process usually involves uploading 10-20 of your images, followed by a few hours of waiting for the model to be completed. As a result of the test, it turned out that no good results can be expected from free solutions.

Paid solutions stood out in terms of both price and quality ImagineMe.AI, but I certainly do not claim that it is the best in the world. For 10 euros you get 100 pictures (25×4) and for 15 euros you get 180 pictures (45×4).

How does ImagineMe.AI work?

After purchasing credits, you can create one free model within 24 hours (you can choose between male, female, cat or dog).

2. Up to 20 images must be uploaded to create the model: 12 close-ups and 8 center shots.

3. After a few hours of waiting, your digital model is ready. The better the pictures, the better the model. I had relatively bad and blurry selfies.

Before creating a picture of yourself, it is worth looking at the Inspiration below or Showcase galleries, because from there you can get a description of the image style you like with one click. In the future, taking pictures of yourself in different styles is just a matter of a few clicks. I got it myself such a gallery.

Uses of AI images

Although personal images created by artificial intelligence have mainly entertainment value (for example, of yourself as a pirate, an astronaut or from a futuristic DJ), there are also practical applications. For example, you can create corporate images with a uniform look by placing even 20 warehouse workers on a website in the same polite black suits.

At the same time, the practical value can also be elsewhere - a new picture for the CV, a more exciting picture of yourself for the presentation slide, a picture describing what you are doing on social media accounts, etc.
