Video is indispensable in the marketing of sports competitions. Which video works best depends on the situation, but here are some common techniques.
Videos created by participants (UGC - User Generated Content)
When organizing a sports event, there is no better promotion than the participants themselves creating video summaries and sharing them on their channels. Although the organizer has no control over the content of the video and may be subject to criticism, it provides a great marketing opportunity. Organizers can highlight participants' videos or offer prizes, such as a free entry to a future event.
Live broadcasts
Sport is living in the moment. Live streaming allows the audience to participate in the event as if they were there, which helps to increase the visibility of the event. The media likes to use live broadcasts because they are easy to integrate into the news. For example, last year A simple broadcast of the Tallinn Marathon finish garnered over 9,500 views, far surpassing all other recaps.
Participants especially like live broadcasts, because who doesn't want to see themselves on the screen?
Video summaries
The videos summarizing the event are primarily intended for the supporters of the sports competition, for reporting and as a reminder to the organizer himself, as well as for planning and advertising the next events. Videos convey more information about the event than just a picture gallery, offering added value to the participants as well.
Special solutions
For example Finisher.TV has created personal videos from various events. Recently, the video diplomas of those who participated in the Võhandu marathon were completed, where each boat team got a memorable clip of their moments at the Viira mill dam.
From this, a 23-minute summary was also completed, where only those who "got to know Võhandu" remained.
Documentaries and backstage-videos
Video summaries also help to summarize several years and arrangements into a historical archive. If necessary, they can be supplemented with an organizational kitchen side, which help create an emotional bond and explain what organizing a sports competition means.
Educational videos
All sports can be taught via video. Both canoeing and running, basketball and motocross - the more you teach your competitors, the more they want to take part in your events.
Post-race interviews
Arrange in advance with a news program to broadcast the winner's finish and interview. Add some cover shots and you will significantly increase the chance that your event will also be covered on evening TV.
Track video
Take a GoPro or other camera, attach it to your bike and ride your race track first. You can do this days before, so that the participants can familiarize themselves with the course, or immediately before the start, as it allows you to get a good picture of the organizational situation before the arrival of the competitors.
NB: GoPro12 does not have GPS - if you want to create an interactive map of the track as in the video below, you should use GoPro 11 or another camera.
There are still different styles and ideas - for example, 360 degree videos, highlights, all kinds of interactive solutions, etc.
