YouTube recently opened up to all users (i.e thumbnails) possibility of testing and comparison. This means that now, after uploading a video, you can add up to three different thumbnails to it, and after a certain period of time, you can see which image was more effective, i.e. got more clicks from viewers.
The new feature is only available on PC through YouTube Studio. Images can be tested in public long-form videos or podcast episodes. It is important to note that the video must not be intended for children. An interesting nuance is that the resolution of the thumbnail to be tested must be less than 1280×720 pixels, while the maximum allowed resolution of a separately uploaded thumbnail is FullHD, i.e. 1920×1080.
To use the feature, the YouTube account must be pre-verified, which means that the ability to add custom thumbnails must already be present.
The results of the test may be available in a few days to two weeks, depending on the number of views of the video and the extent of the difference between the thumbnails. You can find more detailed information about testing and comparison From the YouTube Help Center.
Although I already mentioned the arrival of this possibility at the end of 2023, it is only now that many users have the opportunity to test it themselves. I definitely recommend trying this feature, because only through testing you will know which image brings more viewers to your videos.
